First edition of German theologian Johann Christian Bodenschatz's important work on 18th-century German Jewish life and customs. Born in Hof, Bavaria, Bodenschatz was an eminent German protestant theologian who received his early education in Gera where he became interested in biblical and oriental subjects. He later studied oriental languages at the University of Jena.
